If you like a mystery with ghosts, puzzles, and a hidden treasure, this one is a great find.
Thirteen-year-old Ellsworth has always known family as just him and his dad. Then the dreams start: strange, vivid dreams of houses around a beautiful green square. Then a letter arrives, inviting him to a home he doesn’t remember, called the Square, in Smith Mills, New York.
It turns out his family has a long history, and a very eccentric ancestor named John Matthew Smith, who hid treasures for later generations to find. The last one is still out there, and only a child can uncover it. But something else is hidden in the Square, too: old sorrows and family secrets, and maybe a few restless ghosts.
Ellsworth, with the help of a cousin, follows clues, dreams, and even a few strange cats in a race to find the treasure and set the past to rest. Publishers Weekly called it a supernatural mystery that holds your interest to the end.
It’s a good read for anyone from about fifth grade up who likes puzzles, family stories, and a touch of spooky.
This paperback is in good condition, and you can find it at Dead Tree Dreams. Grab it and start digging for clues.
