"The Caravan" by Wilhelm Hauff (author), Alma Overholt (translator)

This is an ex-library copy with all the expected markings on the front and back endpapers. 

Though he lived to be only 24 years old, Hauff was quite a prolific poet and novelist in Germany in the early 19th century. This book contains several of his fairy tales, which are still popular two centuries later. In the style of The Arabian Nights, the book is arranged as stories within a story. While fairy tales are generally considered children's literature, some reviewers have said that the violence and betrayal in part of the story may be too dark for younger children.
