“Poltergeeks” by Sean Cummings

Ghosts, witches, and a snarky heroine who never backs down. Meet Julie.

Julie Richardson is fifteen, her mom is a witch, and her best friend, Marcus, is a certified geek. When they watch a poltergeist toss an elderly neighbor right out her front door, Julie is sure she can take it on. Her mom has told her never to use magic alone, but you know how that goes.

Soon, the haunting is far worse than any ghost story. Strange attacks hit the town and Julie’s own school, and then a dark spell called Endless Night strikes her mother down. Now Julie has to track down whoever is behind it, and if she can’t, she’ll lose her mom for good.

It’s fast, funny, and full of action, with a heroine who stays witty even when things get dangerous. If you like “Ghostbusters” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” with a dash of “The X-Files,” this is one to grab.

This paperback is in very good condition, and it’s the first in a series, with “Student Bodies” to follow. You can find it at Dead Tree Dreams. Pick it up and see how Julie handles a haunting.
