Here is Edith Head's remarkable story -- the definitive book by and about the woman whose name has become synonymous with Hollywood costume design.

Edith dressed most of the greatest motion picture stars during her sixty-year career and won an unprecedented eight Oscars for her spectacular creations.
In the 1920s, bored with teaching art to schoolchildren, she bluffed her way into a job in the Paramount wardrobe department. Before long, her spunk and talent had landed her her first screen credit, for She Done Him Wrong with Mae West. Soon after, she'd risen to the position of Chief Costume Designer and supervised nearly every Paramount film until the 1960s.

Edith Head's Hollywood traces an incredible career that spanned the history of films -- from the silent era to Steve Martin's Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, her last film. All the behind-the-scenes stories, a feast of great movie lore, dozens of elegant costume sketches and dreamy photographs -- it adds up to a life, as Bette Davis put it in her introduction, that was "all about glamour--sixty-odd years of it."

Edith worked on this autobiography until the time of her death in 1981. The story was completed by Paddy Calistro, former journalist for the Los Angeles Times.
